Editorial Portraiture & The New "Headshot"

More & more I'm finding actors, musicians, dancers... even business professionals are looking for something out of the box when it comes to headshots and portraiture. While, yes, there will always be a need for those "shots-in-front-of-a-backdrop" style photos... uh, why not spice things up with photos that are natural and expressive?

What's more, is that you get to choose your environments and create the atmosphere in which you want to be captured to really create an image that speaks!

Recently, I was contacted by New York actress, Francesca Choy-Kee to do just that. Here are some photos from our shoot.

For her shoot, she wanted something a bit dreamy, romantic, earthy, feminine and natural.

This just out! A new album by German cellist, Johannes Moser. Now, an international music celebrity, Johannes has built his reputation, in part on his exquisite performances of surprising chamber music repertoire. He continues in this vein with a selection of English works for cello and piano in his latest release, Cello Sonatas. I had the great opportunity to photograph Johannes Moser for IMG Artists' Sounding Off Tour last fall, and was more than pleased when the artist and label, Haansler Classic, contacted me for the image for this upcoming CD cover. Congrats Johannes, on the new release!

The A.O. Movement Collective is a home for hard falls and heavy slow dances. It is a community of dancers, thinkers, and makers who live by their art. Recently, I had the great opportunity to work with them in preparation for their upcoming performance, 90 Ways To Wake From Drowning. Step right up to the golden tent with Le Cirque Féerique! Company XIV, a Neo-baroque dance-theatre group will delight and amaze, as they re-imagine your favorite childhood fairy tales in this magical menagerie of opera, dance, theatre and opulent design.

Ah! I just love what the very talented filmmaker/producer/designer, Corey Tatarczuk has done with photos from our shoot for the posters (pictured above & below)!

The show, which opens May 8th and runs til June 6, 2010, includes an array of music, including pieces by Vivaldi, Aphex Twin, Lady Gaga and Bizet, and features a special guest, the Charites Baroque Opera Trio.

This lush extravaganza includes classic fairy tales such as Charles Perrault’s Little Red Riding Hood and Cinderella, Hans Christian Andersen’s The Ugly Duckling, The Emperor’s New Clothes and The Princess and the Pea, The Brothers Grimm’s The Fisherman and His Wife, Munro Leaf’s Ferdinand the Bull and more.

The Destronauts: Old City...New Lights

The Destronauts are a Brooklyn based musical duo consisting of American vocalist/guitarist/producer Chadwick Shao and Argentinean singer/actress Mimi Eayrs. Their first EP, 3 Moons is inspired by a daydream Chadwick had, sometime ago, when he lived in Italy. Their sound is a blend rock & pop infused with beats and sounds of house and drum and bass electronica.

Horray and TGIF! Oh joy, with so many reasons to be happy today, I'm going to make an exception and do some writing here. Recently, I have to come to work with this AMAZING troupe called Company XIV.

Company XIV is a mixed media theater company founded by Austin McCormick in Brooklyn, NY. With influences in baroque styling they create compelling theatrical dance productions. They are without a doubt a must-see! What else can I say? "Just incredible!!!!" You'll have to see for yourself... Currently they are in rehearsals for their upcoming show which debuts in May.
